Wordless Wednesday

Renee has discovered ...
...an even better venue for a steamy latte!

The "Wordless" part is now over...LOL

Is it just my hubby and I who feel like Starbucks is being chintzy with their coffee portions in their latte coffees lately? We find the flavor of coffee barely existent anymore, tasting more like warm milk and not a proper coffee latte these days. This week we've discovered "Second Cup" latte coffees. What a remarkable difference in the taste! And, they even have chocolate sprinkles on top! Whether you like it straight up or decaf, yummy yum! Too bad we discovered them on our travels and there are none of these located near us at home.

And now, back to the hockey game...these two in one room, and the rest in another..

To all the Detroit Red Wing AND Pittsburgh Penguin players. YOU are all winners for making it this far, all the way to Game 6. (I corrected my error, it was NOT game 7, only game 6...thanks Em!)

Congratulations to you all!

What a fine ending to the NHL ice hockey season. (waving my towel for all of you here)...

Impressive...

This blog has always held the musings of life in the east for our family after a work transfer brought us here.

I'll confess right here, right now, there is something I miss from living in the west. You in turn will ask me of course, what it could be, right?

Oh, relax. It's just a silly thing really. Today I sit bleary eyed, road tripping in a hotel lobby. I'm gulping my coffee as I sit on my laptop, trying, no really attempting to keep my eyes open. True confessions are plenty for me this day...snicker.

I miss being able to jump on the bandwagon during NHL playoffs, and being able to watch the final games on Pacific time (LOL), rather than sit on the edge of my seat waving a colored towel and cheering for a specific team, trying to shush everyone so we don't wake the others who are attempting to sleep in another room - on eastern time yet, during the wee hours on the next morning. We worked hard last night to stifle and suppress any booming cheers and shouts of "atta boys" to the Pittsburgh goalie "Fleury" for his great game saving skills. What a goalie he has proven to be during the past few games, but last night, he was nothing but "Impressive".

So, last night, during the third overtime of Game 6, the two oldest and I gathered round the screen with the sound down so low due to the exhilaration of the crowd noise oozing from the tv speakers during the live game before us. What a game! Only 34 seconds came between Detroit and the all glorious Stanley Cup win! Imagine! Well, that is until Pittsburgh scored!

We thought the game would never end after the third overtime was clocked in, fighting fatigue to say the least and kept looking at the clock after it struck 12:30am! On and on the game went, and not being bias of course in any way, we were all quietly thinking "Fleury" truly deserved at least another chance to show his stuff. So we routed for another game opportunity for him to play in, hoping secretly for a Game 7 airing Wednesday night, rather than have Detroit win this particular game. We'll have our naps that day, and our popcorn will be freshly popped for the tube time. Yep, I guess you've figured out we are Pittsburgh fans and we must surely be careful around all the local Detroit fans. snicker

GO PITTSBURGH!
(Alison, bet your family is routing for the same, no? :-)

Ball hockey playoff night

Ball hockey playoff night!

or subtitled...

How the farmer affected the ball hockey players...

Across the street...farmer action!

Across the street from our home, the farmer finally plowed down the old corn field. This year we will have soybeans in the fields across the street, at least that is what we are told, making the landscaping interesting and different yet again. As with any field plowing, all the farmland bugs scoot and come visit our property, or it appears so.

This past Friday evening while everyone paraded in and out of the house to see our cool chicks, the final season evening of the ball hockey spring challenge was taking place on our sports court.

As with any sport, even the best of athletes can overheat given the additional circumstances of added warmth from a lovely humid day. As the boys overheated, two older ones were in great need of cooling off on a shift change, and I could just swear I saw a cloud of bugs head straight for their sweaty skin! Shirts were the better option to little wee black bugs decorating chests and backs. This could only happen in the country when the field across the street is freshly plowed right? hee hee

The bulk of the players were present, 2 were missing.

As if becoming "sticky" from assorted foreign insects wasn't enough for some, a roll of hockey tape found near the players resting until their next games presented some very unique facial imaging, where the fun began in earnest to see who could outdo the last. Here are a few funnies to leave you with...

So!

Did you spot him in the group photo?

He won entertainer of the night!

It's June!

It's JUNE!

The merry-go-round
plays a bouncy tune!
There are flowers on the ground.
And it's June! It's June!
Vacation's here,
And school is done.
We play new games.
We shout and run.
But best of all to do, we've found
Is to ride and sing on the merry-go-round.

There's a tall giraffe,
There's an ostrich white.
We all climb on,
we hold them tight.
The music begins, and we like the sound!
And we fly through the air on the merry-go-round!

Chicky goodbyes

Chicky Goodbyes!

Truly, it was an eventful weekend for our young daughter, and every other member of our family at home.

Three little chicks peeped loudly in our laundry room for three days, mostly due to the many visitors continually entering the room to check out the cool chicks in the box on the floor. I am happy to report all survived their time in our daughter's care, however it was a funny surprise to see how involved everyone got aside from her, proving too many captains cannot run a ship!

Due to having the heat lamp on, and knowing what chicks do with their feet, their little watering dish was continuously empty, or so the gang here submits for the reason why so much water was necessary each time they used "watering" as an excuse for "playing" with the chicks when caught. My hubby turned out to be the very worst culprit, and small chicks aren't really a preferred animal for him to be near at this time in his health journey. He would chuckle when retelling his experiences visiting with the chicks, especially how they would peer at him with their head half turned and one eye up in the air taking him in.

I suppose so many visitors made these little guys a bit nervous, or were they just doing their natural routine by constantly pecking at the corners of the box, until at last, wee holes were noticed right through the cardboard. I caught my hubby in there one time, moving an object back and forth near the hole, teasing the poor young fellows, and then again, he told us how he pretended to scratch the box on the other side of where one was pecking, only to giggle when detailing how all three stopped in their tracks and ran to the opposite corner of the box afterwards. Sounds like he had fun doesn't it? And the rest, well let's just say, all were intrigued and happily involved in the weekend fun.

We were given a large supply of cracked corn in a ziplock bag, and we were assured there was way more within it than necessary. When the owners came to pick up the chicks, the bag (gulp) was empty! How did that happen? I know! It was all those visitors who ventured in there, quickly noticing the empty dish, but they forget all the feed was still there, merely scattered all around for them to find and devour later. I could swear those little furry things doubled in size during our watch, and wonder if the owners noticed too. grin

What a hoot! Or should I say, what a peep! :-)
